Not my biggest weekend. But getting busted at 12,000' last weekend by the #rockymountainnationalpark sheriff's for jumping the barrier to #keephammering up Trail Ridge Road put a limit on how high & long I could go until it's officially opened above Rainbow Curve.

That's the essence of ambiance. Experiencing :45 moments like this are easily enough to justify $1000s spent & hours of long travel just to feel. These are the moments etched in my brain. This is why I've race traveled since the '90s. Sorry, but you won't get this in the 🇺🇸.

And then do it all over the next day. Day after day. See? Simple.

A very different version of the duathlon #runbiker A very different version of the duathlon #runbikerun workout I posted last Fri as it's numerous shorter & faster efforts. This variation has more of each. 5 rounds to be exact (4 on the bike so I'm fishing with the strongest run effort just like in #duathlon).

I start with the run & every 1mi round I bump speed. So I'll start at an 8mm pace & be doing the final 5th mile in 7mm (or faster).

On the bike my 1st 5min effort will be at a ± 20mph average & by the final round I'll be pushing +30mph (a significant watt bump). This means I'm going into the final 1mi run taxed. Just like racing.

The other bonus to this version is that it gives me numerous T¹ T² practice. So I get to practice fresh, tired, different shoe on/off methods, recover from shoe fumbles, test shoe placement, etc.

This is 'specificity of training' (#traintorace) at its core.

My 19th @rockynps workout since Jan 1. This was my My 19th @rockynps workout since Jan 1. This was my Sunday workout, the day after the speed hike-snowshoe-trail-road run workout up to 11,800' I posted on Monday that I did on Saturday. I had TRR entirely to myself.

With the completion of this 4:01 (3:08 of just climbing, 52:47 of descending), 41 miles (21 of climbing), 5,023' of vertical gain up to 12,035' road ride on my blacked out @cervelo S5, I ended up with a back to back 2 day total of: 

49 miles
7hr 34min
8,026 of vertical gain
12,035' max altitude 
4 run types
1 ride type

But, they're some of my personal favorites. Why? Because I know the truth of how demanding, isolated, taxing & difficult they are + the beauty of the #rockymountains. IMO, they are as rad as anything else I post that is viewed or 'liked' far more. So why don't others seem to like? I suspect many can't relate to this work type so can't understand the workload so don't find it compelling. A gym video is more relatable. But hell, the scenery & beauty alone should be universally likable 😎

I have many variations of this #duathlon brick wor I have many variations of this #duathlon brick workout. A workout I've done for well over a decade; longer rides, longer runs, back to the bike, start with run, harder bike intervals, harder run intervals, intensity variations, trail, road, treadmill, hills, more repeats. This workout is peppered throughout my feed in all manner of forms. I used this workout type as prep for one of my best results ever at a Duathlon World Championships ('14 Spain) with #teamusa. But no matter the version, the essence stays the same; duathlon based training. My bread & butter. The sport I cut my teeth in. The sport I dedicated +25yrs to. The sport I was an 8x #allamerican in. The sport that made me the athlete I am. The sport that took me around the world.

When I say "I'm not out here fukin around" what do When I say "I'm not out here fukin around" what do you think I mean? 

It means I take what I do seriously. I'm not out here screwing around, taking lunch breaks, going to coffee shops, excessively stopping, taking forever to get ready. I'm virtually always getting after it. My workload is > than my rest periods. I'm goal driven & task oriented. I embrace pushing & testing myself constantly & the discomfort that comes along with it. I'm focused & committed no matter what workout I'm doing. I'm not wasting time stretching or doing mobility. I'm not like a CrossFit gym doing 10min of work & 50min of bullshit. I only surround myself with people that are like-minded & equal (if not better) than my skill level. I'm not letting others get in my way or bog me down. I consider fun a bonus, but not a requirement. I always have goals, plans, protocols, processes, strategies. I have a life purpose. I'm not leaving things to chance. I'm not out here winging it hoping it all works out the way I envision. I'm actively attacking my life with purpose. 

Because "I'm not out here fukin around"
